By early 1958 GE was starting to promote their new line of production silicon transistors including the new "2N451-454" Silicon Power Transistors as shown in this February, 1958 flyer (partially shown above). As indicated, GE now rated the maximum collector dissipation of these silicon output devices at the now industry accepted temperature of 25 degrees C (or 77 degrees F). Still, 85 watts was quite a boost over anything that germanium was capable at that time, given too these Silicon devices smaller size of under 1" in diameter and about 3/8" in height. As it turns out, there doesn't seem to have been much other GE promotional advertising for this power transistor series other than the GE Transistor Manual shown next, at least not in any of the larger circulation electronics magazines. This new Silicon Power Transistor series was next shown in GE's Third Edition Transistor Manual, released a few months later, in the summer of 1958.
