A SURVEY OF EARLY POWER TRANSISTORS

GE 1950s SILICON POWER TRANSISTORS

The GE 3rd Edition Manual  'JETEC Registered Transistor Listing'  was current through May 1, 1958, as noted above on page 150.  Note: This new GE power transistor series was not mentioned in GE's Second Edition Transistor Manual of 1957 (which was current through July 1, 1957) as it had stopped with listed JETEC numbered devices of another GE silicon series, 2N430-2N434 (but later deleted).  So we can speculate the later power transistor "2N451-454" series came out 'officially' not too long afterwards, likely by the end of 1957.

GE is proudly showing their specs for this impressive new NPN Silicon Power Transistor series on pages 135-137 of the 3rd Edition Transistor Manual.  Shown at right is the spec sheet for the 2N451 Power Transistor, rated at 85 watts of dissipated power, and claimed capable of a commendable 25 watts output power in Class A. The other listed series devices had similar spec ratings.
