Recognizing Significant Contributions to 20th Century Semiconductor History and Technology

Notable Contributions

Coincident with the filing of the Bakalar patent describing an improved gold bonded diode, Transitron made this revolutionary technology available commercially, as illustrated by the above ad published in the Nov 1954 issue of Electronics magazine.  All the desirable performance characteristics of this improved diode type, as defined in the patent, were noted in the ad.  This product launch, which included dozens of specific diode model numbers intended for a wide range of applications such as computers, military, and high temperature diodes, quickly established the “start-up” Transitron as a major semiconductor company.
