With this above patent, filed on Nov 22, 1954, David Bakalar provided a sound technical description of an improved gold bonded germanium crystal diode. As noted earlier, David correctly predicted that if a stable diode of this type could be manufactured, there would be a large commercial market. The diode structure defined in this patent in fact did result in high reliability, high performance germanium gold bonded diodes that were the basis for Transitron’s first and very successful product offering.
