These scans all show various aspects of the construction steps that
“Mac” followed to create a point contact transistor. The text on the left
is from an August 1953 TI publication entitled “texins”. The article
describes the process for building a point contact transistor. The hand
drawn sketch at the top of this page is a recent correspondence from “Mac”
detailing his memories of these same assembly steps, as he remembers them,
from his first TI assignment almost 50 years ago. The small item shown
above with the yellow background is approximately 1” across from tip to
tip. This is an actual set of points from “Mac”, shown as first assembled
and then as folded for mounting on the header for placement on the
germanium block of a point contact transistor.
