The photo above is from an article by Dwight that
was published in the August 1958 Radio & TV News magazine. This is one of many contributions made by
Dwight to early transistor HiFi circuitry.
The schematic for this preamp is shown on the left; it was reproduced
in the Third, Fourth, and Fifth editions of the GE Transistor manual series. By the publication of the Sixth edition,
in 1962, transistor technology had developed sufficiently such that tubes
were no longer competitive, even in very high end audio systems. In the 1950s, when Dwight originally
developed this preamp, transistor cost and performance factors were still
prohibitive issues in the design of HiFi circuits.
