Bernie was the inventor/co-inventor of several key patents relating to early semiconductor technology.  These patents are listed at right.  Several of the patents illustrate the U.S. government/Signal Corps affiliation with Bernie’s work.  For example, as shown in the  patent  above:

 

 (1) The assignee is “The United States of America, as represented by the secretary of the Army”.  

 

(2) The patents state: “The invention described herein may be manufactured, used and licenses by or for the Government for governmental purposes without the payment to me of any royalty thereon”.

 

There are similar sections in several of Bernie’s key patents that confirm the Signal Corps affiliation and the intended use of this important work by any government agency without royalty.
