Recognizing Significant Contributions to 20th Century Semiconductor History and Technology

Notable Contributions

Building on the commercial success of the 1954 launch of gold bonded diodes, Transitron moved quickly to establish leadership in another important semiconductor market – silicon rectifiers.  According to David, Transitron developed the world’s first silicon rectifiers, which were smaller and generated less heat than their tube equivalents.  First announced for commercial distribution in March 1955, Transitron developed a complete line of silicon rectifiers and became a major supplier of these devices.  Shown above is a section of a Sept 1956 Transitron ad published in Electronics magazine.  Note the complete list of available 1956 semiconductor product types shown in the lower section of this ad.
